Easter is the most celebrated feast in Greek culture. Good Friday is seen as an extremely solemn day within the Greek Orthodox Calendar in which everyone mourns the death of Christ. In respect of this, everyone, religious or not, fasts for the whole day – this seems like the right thing to do considering what happens next!
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Christ – and they certainly celebrate! It is the carnivorous FEAST after the fast and the largest meal of the year! The meat predominantly used is Lamb – and let’s just say none of it goes to waste.
- Ovelia: Whole Roast Lamb on a spit
- Lamb intestines wrap around the liver and is roasted on the spit
- Pork Tenderloin is also roasted
- Magiritsa soup – chopped Lamb’s intestine and liver
